Saint Norbert of Xanten
His feast day is on June 6th
The name originates from Old German and means “bright north.”
Norbert was born into a noble family and was accustomed to luxury. His conversion occurred while he was on a journey and got caught in a storm, falling unconscious after falling from his horse. After this incident, he gave away his possessions, was ordained a priest, and became a preacher. The bishop offered land to establish a Christian community because he was such a successful preacher. The community rapidly expanded and eventually counted 10 monasteries.
Patron saint of farmers, peace, the Czech Republic, and he is invoked during childbirth for a safe delivery.
