Description
Saint Martin
Feast day: November 11th.
The name originates from Latin and means ‘warrior’.
Martin of Tours was an officer in the Roman army. His life and destiny were determined by an encounter on a cold winter morning when he met a beggar. Since he had nothing else with him, he cut a piece of his cloak and gave it to the beggar. This act was his first step towards conversion. Soon after, he was baptized and left the military service. After his education, he first became a hermit and later a bishop, and due to his humility, he was extremely popular.
Patron saint of: viticulture, innkeepers, shepherds, travelers, the poor, and beggars, prisoners, abstainers, domestic animals, charity, for good crop yields.
