Saint John the Evangelist

Feast day: December 27.

The name originates from Hebrew and means ‘Yahweh (God) is merciful’.

John, the son of Zebedee and Salome from Bethsaida, was the brother of the apostle James the Greater. He was an apostle and evangelist, remaining faithful to Jesus until the bitter end. He wrote the fourth gospel of the New Testament, the Book of Revelation, and three letters in which he speaks about love for God and neighbor.
