Saint James the Lesser, also known as James Alpheus, was one of the apostles and an important saint in the Christian faith. He held a special place in Jesus’ life as he was the son of Mary, Jesus’ aunt, which made him a brother or relative of Jesus’ cousins. As an apostle, he witnessed Jesus’ teachings and miracles and actively participated in spreading Christianity after Jesus’ death. He is also significant as a saint in Catholic and Orthodox Christianity. James the Lesser is often depicted with symbols such as a fish and staff, representing his apostolic mission. He is also known for being one of those who had a vision of Jesus’ resurrection. He was a just man, devoted to prayer, and caring for the poor. He tragically died as he was attacked in the temple and beaten to death with clubs.
