Description
Saint Cecilia
Feast day: November 22
Cecilia is of Latin origin, derived from the word caecus meaning “blind”.
Saint Cecilia was betrothed to Valerian, but secretly had promised herself to God. She told this to Valerian, saying that an angel was watching over her. Valerian asked to be shown the angel. Cecilia said he must be baptized first. Upon his return from the sacrament, he saw Cecilia praying with her angel beside her. The couple refused to renounce their faith and were soon executed by the Roman prefect. It is said that Cecilia sang with angelic harmonies and could play any instrument.
