Description
Saint Bruno of Cologne
Feast day on October 6th.
The name originates from the Germanic language and means ‘armor, protection’ or ‘brown.’
Bruno first gained fame as an excellent lecturer and proclaimer of God’s word. He fought against the buying of church offices and honors, which earned him much hostility among the clergy and cardinals. Since he was not inclined towards the bishopric, he entered the Benedictine Order. Finding life within it not strict enough, he founded the Carthusian Order with a handful of followers. This order is dedicated to solitude, silence, prayer, and contemplation. It has survived to this day and is still considered the strictest.
Patron saint of Germany; Carthusians; against possession.
