The name is a compound of Old German and means ‘noble’ and ‘famous’.
Albert was a Dominican friar and one of the greatest scientists of his time. He studied in Paris, where he also received an academic title, and then went to Cologne, where he taught and lectured, with one of his students being Thomas Aquinas. He was one of the most influential German philosophers and theologians of the Middle Ages and was honored with the title Doctor of the Church for his work.
