Saint Mark the Evangelist

Feast day: April 25th

The name originates from Latin and means ‘hammer’.

Mark was the author of the second gospel. He was a disciple of the apostle Peter and his translator. After his martyrdom, he became independent and preached through spoken and written word what he had heard about Jesus. He died a martyr’s death, most likely in Alexandria.

Patron saint of farmers, basket makers, masons, notaries, stained glass painters, scribes; cities of Egypt and Venice; for good weather and a bountiful harvest; protects against lightning, hail, and sudden death.
