The name in Greek means ‘from Lydia.’

Saint Lydia was a hardworking, intelligent and self-confident business woman of her time. As a merchant of scarlet goods, the most expensive commodity in the Middle East, she achieved high social status and wealth.
In the Christian faith, she became known as the first woman baptized by the apostle Paul on European soil. With this, it became a symbol of conversion and Christian missionary work.
St. Lydia remains an important figure in the Christian tradition and is an example for all who seek perseverance, faith and business wisdom in their lives.
