Saint Anne was the wife of Saint Joachim. Together, they endured a period of suffering due to infertility before God’s grace blessed them with the miraculous gift of the birth of the Virgin Mary. Mary is a special figure in Christian belief, as she was chosen to be the Mother of God, who gave birth to Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Joachim and Anne are often portrayed in Christian tradition as exemplary figures who dedicated themselves to serving God and, in the course of God’s plan, surrendered their daughter Mary.
